4sqday 2012: It’s Coming!

Friendly reminder!

Mark your calendars — #4sqDay approacheth!

Two years ago, a group of passionate foursquare fans in Tampa Bay, Florida asked their mayor to officially declare April 16 (4/4^2; it’s delightfully nerdy) ‘foursquare day,’ and encouraged people in their community to check in to their local businesses on foursquare to celebrate.

Thanks to our amazing community, the holiday has exploded since then. Last year, there were over 1,000 meetups around the world, with 19 mayors declaring 4sqDay in their cities! With our 15,000,000-strong global community, this year promises to be even bigger!

4sqday.com Named Top Seven Beautiful Event Website Design

How exciting! 4sqday.com (which we created last year for Foursquare Day) was named #7 of 10 in Ten Inspiring Examples of Beautiful Event Website Design!

7. 4sqDay – Virtual/Aggregation

KISS website focused on social and location. The best way to aggregate events in a virtual environment. I guess I can officially invent the word ‘meta-event’ to describe the above and happenings such as Twestival, Meetups, Tweetups, etc.

Postcastin’ it up on About Foursquare

Foursquare Day Featured on About Foursquare Podcast!

Welcome to 2011! As much of a cliche as it is, I really can’t believe that last year has come and gone so quickly. It seems that just the other day we were gearing up for 4sqday2010. Of course, last year it wasn’t 4sqday2010, but just 4sqday. Everything was so new then. Foursquare had just over 500,000 users – a tenth what it has now. There were no foursquare communities. Super Swarms were brand. The idea of “epic swarms” seemed absurd.

4sqDay Panel at SXSWi!

It’s that time of year again! In short, thousands of panel ideas were submitted to South by Southwest and now they take the public’s votes into consideration as they determine the programming for the 2011 event! (More info on how that works…)

Walter Elly of MicroArts thought a SXSW panel about Foursquare Day and the foursquare community would be really interesting and Dr. Nate and I agreed! We’d love your help getting there!

Foursquare Day One of Top Seven “Lamest” Holidays

Originally posted on the 4sqday blog by Dr. Nathan Bonilla-Warford.

Foursquare Day is one of Time’s 7 “Lamest” Holidays!

Foursquare friends, I’m glad to report that as a holiday, Foursquare Day has finally arrived! Certainly, being added to the Wikipedia Unofficial Observances page was nice, but that was not nearly as legitimizing as what happened today!

What happened? Well in a nutshell, Time NewsFeeed feels that Foursquare Day is a big enough holiday to deem “lame.” Check it out here.

Foursquare Day Recap

Amber Osborne aka Miss Destructo wrote an amazing followup to Foursquare Day! Amber was an integral part of the Foursquare Day team from the very beginning and her incredible voice helped jettison Foursquare Day into the social media stratosphere.

Foursquare Day Quickly Comes into Focus

The Foursquare Day event is catching on in every corner of the globe. In just a few short weeks, fans and new initiates of Foursquare and social media at large have self organized to plan and launch the first ever Foursquare Day. We created a website to help aggregate information about the many Swarm Parties and exclusive Specials on Foursquare day, but just browsing lists of information didn’t quite capture what was really going on.

OFFICIAL: Foursquare Day Badge

Originally posted on the 4sqday blog.

There have been a lot of rumors, and we received this badge from multiple sources in the last 18 hours. The Foursquare Team already officially recognized April 16th as Foursquare Day (that’s 4sqday for short). Today, they let us in early on the announcement that this will be the badge awarded to those who participate on Friday.

Now, I know what you’re already thinking: “We love this awesome badge! We love Foursquare and 4sqday! What do we need to do to get the badge?!”
